Industrial Highlights | Baker Hughes and NextDecade Partner for Rio Grande LNG Expansion with Advanced Equipment and Materials

March 21, 2025 – Baker Hughes and NextDecade Corporation have signed a framework agreement to support the expansion of the Rio Grande LNG facility in Texas. The agreement involves Baker Hughes supplying state-of-the-art gas turbines and refrigerant compressors to enhance the efficiency and capacity of the facility’s upcoming liquefaction trains. This marks a significant step toward strengthening the United States' position in the global LNG market.

Advancing LNG Infrastructure with Cutting-Edge Technology

Under this agreement, Baker Hughes will provide high-efficiency aeroderivative gas turbines and centrifugal compressors, which are essential for the liquefaction process in LNG plants. These technologies are designed to reduce emissions, optimize energy use, and improve operational reliability.

The expansion includes Trains 4 through 8, which, once operational, will significantly increase the facility’s liquefaction capacity by approximately 18 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). The project is currently in the permitting and final investment decision (FID) phase for Trains 4 and 5, with construction expected to commence upon securing necessary approvals and financing.
