Comparison of Mechanical Properties for Titanium-Steel Clad Plates

Comparison of Mechanical Properties for Titanium-Steel Clad Plates

In our regular production, Fugo™ most commonly follows the ASTM or GB standard, but if customers have specific technical requirements, Fugo can also manufacture according to those needs. Below is a comparison of commonly used titanium-steel clad plate standards.

Specification

ASTM Standard (B898)

Standard Specification for Reactive and Refractory Metal Clad Plate

EN Standard (EN 13445-2)

Annex D Technical delivery conditions for clad products for pressure purposes

GB Standard (GB/T 8546)

Titanium Clad Stainles Steel Plate

GB Standard (GB/T 8547)

Titanium Clad Steel Plate

Tensile Strength (Min)

  • In accordance with base mterial specification.

  •  Tensile tests in accordance with EN ISO 6892-1
  • In accordance with the formula in GB/T 8546

Rmj=t1Rm1+t2Rm2t1+t2Rmj

       =t1Rm1+2Rm2t1+t2

  • When Titanium Cladding layer is not a part of Design Strength Requirement. Which means total Clad Plate>38.1mm, in accordance with the spec of base layer
  • When Cladding Cladding layer is Part of Design Strength Requirement. Which means total  Clad Plate≤38.1mm,in accordance with the formula in GB/T 8547

Rmj=t1Rm1+t2Rm2t1+t2Rmj

      =t1Rm1+2Rm2t1+t2

Elongation (A)%

NA
  • In the case of clad steels where the cladding has a lower degree of elasticity than that of the base metal, a tensile test on the cladding after the base has been removed should show an elongation after fracture A5 of at least 12 %.
  • In accordance with the spec of Titanium layer or base layer, whichever is the lower
  • In accordance with the spec of Titanium layer or base layer, whichever is the lower
Shear Strength
  • ≥137.9 MPa
(Performed when specified by the purchaser)
  • The shear strength of cladding with a tensile strength of less than 280 MPa should be more than half the minimum tensile strength of the cladding material and, for all other cladding materials, should not be less than 140 MPa, regardless of the direction of testing.
  • Class 0 ≥196 Mpa
  • Others ≥140 Mpa
  • Class 0 ≥196 Mpa
  • Others ≥140 Mpa

Bending Test

  • Ductility bend tests
  • Side bend tests
(Performed when specified by the purchaser)
  • Bend tests on test pieces which, as shown in Figure D.5-2 cover the bonded zone and are bent in a direction parallel to the bounding zone
  • Inner bending
  • Outter bending

(Performed in accordance with the class level or speficified by the purchaser)

  • Inner bending
  • Outter bending
(Performed in accordance with the class level or speficified by the purchaser)
